Our Guild Optiem

OPTIEM – Oulun Tuotantotalousteekkarit ry is a guild founded in 1991 for the industrial engineering and management students in Oulu. The abbreviation Optiem comes from the words Oulu Presents The Industrial Engineering and Management. The purpose of the guild is to promote the study-related interests of its members and to organize various leisure activities, including sports and academic student culture. The guild’s board and officials, who are newly elected at the end of each year, are responsible for organizing these operations. However, all guild members are encouraged to participate in the activities according to their own level of enthusiasm. The guild also works in cooperation with our umbrella organization, Oulun Teekkariyhdistys ry (OTY), and the parent organization of all university students, the Student Union of the University of Oulu (OYY).

A cracking egg represents birth, a beginning, and a new idea. Innovation is a fundamental prerequisite for development. 

An upward curve reflects economic trends, the future, and an upward trajectory. 

The sectors illustrate a shared cake and the distribution of business profits—but also the dualism of technology and economics, which unite in industrial engineering and management. 

The logo also features a clock face. Urgency, time as a limiting factor, and the importance of proper timing are fundamental principles of production planning.

The turquoise-blue logo represents the roar and power of the sea. There are things that must be respected and cannot be controlled. The blue-and-white color scheme has traditionally symbolized Finland, making Optiem easily recognizable as Finnish even abroad. Turquoise, or a greenish shade of blue, also evokes positive associations in today’s environmentally conscious society.
